Transport for London (TfL) is changing the face of the Capital with exciting new schemes for future generations.

Ahead of the London 2012 Games, the city witnessed the launch of the Emirates Air Line, a slick new cable car that zips people across the Thames between the ExCeL exhibition centre and the O2 Arena.

TfL’s contribution to the Capital’s transformation continues underground, with improved trains and upgraded stations to handle growing passenger demand. Each weekday the Tube sees more than three and a half million journeys made on 11 lines and through 270 stations, rising to four million on the busiest days.

Work is also under way on Crossrail, a state-of- the-art railway that will cut journey times between east and west London. The project is so vast that an academy is being set up dedicated to schooling the next generation of tunnelling experts.

We employ more than 22,000 people. Every day we affect the lives of millions - whether it’s from our desks or from stations and platforms, where we help people from all walks of life get where they want to go.

We believe in investing in the future, not just by upgrading our systems but also through bringing in a new generation of employees with fresh ideas and a willingness to learn from our experienced managers. We train apprentices in the skills they need to make a real career with us.

We offer a number of apprenticeships covering roles in customer services, engineering and technical areas.

Ryan started working as an LU Operational Apprentice in September 2009. In his final year of school he had to decide what to do next, to stay in education or find work. With this apprenticeship he found the best of both worlds. He developed his customer service and management skills, attained a Level 2 NVQ in Rail Transport Operations and earned a great salary at the same time.

Ryan completed his apprenticeship in September 2011 and is now working as a Station Supervisor.
