About Border Force
Border Force is a law enforcement command within the Home Office responsible for managing the UK border control by enforcing immigration and customs regulations and working with the wider Home Office on counter terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking. We have five operational regions responsible for securing the border 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at the UK’s 140 seaports, airports, postal depots and international rail network.

The role Apprentice
As an Apprentice for the Border Force, you’ll be engaged in a range of exciting and flexible activities in an airport or seaport/maritime environment. You’ll detect and assist with the investigation of offences arising from the illicit importation of prohibited goods, including drugs, cash, tobacco, alcohol, firearms and counterfeit goods. You’ll need to search vehicles, examine goods, baggage and freight consignments, question passengers and arrest and handcuff persons suspected of committing an offence.

The apprenticeship will take up to 18 months to complete, with a view to becoming a permanent Border Force Assistant Officer.

Who we’re looking for
Flexible and adaptable, you’ll have excellent interpersonal skills and a creative approach to problem solving. A fantastic team player, you enjoy building strong working relationships with others and interacting with the public. It’s important that you have a strong sense of personal ethics and integrity and are keen to learn and develop yourself.

This role is only open to UK Nationals and you will need to possess a full and valid British passport. It’s also important that you are able to get to the port or airport, even when public transport is not running. In order to be eligible you must have two GCSE’s in Maths and English at A*-D (or equivalent qualifications). The role can be physically demanding, so you will need to have a certain level of fitness and you will be required to pass Home Office level security clearance.
