I was planning to go to straight to university after school. To be honest, I didn't really know what consulting was until I attended an Accenture presentation. By the end of it, I was pretty impressed by what consulting entailed – so I applied for the Horizons Scheme.

I loved the fact that I could gain experience with a vast range of clients and industries. The knowledge was invaluable in showing me the reality of a career within consulting and there were many things I learnt that would prove helpful when I got to university. I was surprised at the amount of responsibility I was given. It wasn't easy trying to work at the level of a graduate after just finishing school, but it was incredibly rewarding. Interns at other companies I spoke to were getting menial tasks to complete, whereas I was being treated as a true member of the team.

During the internship I worked on a project for the Medicine and Healthcare Regulatory Agency, in a project management support role. This involved helping with activities such as tracking time and expenses as well as organising project communications and socials. When the day came to join Accenture as a graduate, I had no doubts that this was the company where I wanted to start my career.
