Job Description

Turn your love for gardening and plants, spending your whole day outdoors being physically active, creating and caring for beautiful spaces that are a haven for people, nature and wildlife and for learning every day, into a career. This is your opportunity of a lifetime to train to become a gardener of the future.

What will the apprentice be doing?

With guidance, support and encouragement from experienced team members:

  • On a daily basis, assisting with the full range of horticultural tasks essential to maintening and developing the park using sustainable and environmentally responsible ways of working.  For example, weeding, mowing, strimming, pruning, planting, topiary cutting, mulching, litter picking and cleaning.
  • Working with a wide range of people.  For example, park groups, volunteers, contractors, councillors and work colleagues.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You’ll learn through practical, hands-on training from our award winning and inspirational Head Gardener.  We'll train you to use sustainable, organic and wildlife-friendly ways of gardining along with using a range of hand and (increasingly electric) power tools including strimmers, hedge cutters and pedestrian movers.  Formal learning will take place through successfully completing studies with Plumpton College.  This will involve both one-to-one coaching and classroom-based activities.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Whilst we cannot guarantee a permanent role, all of our Worth Park Apprentices to do date have continued their careers in horticulture with us or most recently the RHS.

Reality Check

You'll be carrying out physical activities all day, every day, outdoors in all weathers. Be prepared for early starts, work starts at 07:00 every day. Consider how you'll get to Worth Park and the cost in relation to the apprenticeship wage. You must also be willing to travel to Plumpton College 1 day per week using public or your own transport.
