Percy Shurmer Academy is a large two form entry primary academy. We currently have 442 pupils aged from 3 to 11 which also includes 29 children in our Nursery and a 14 place Deaf Learning Base (DLB). The school is divided into Nursery and Reception (EYFS), Years 1 - 2 (KS1) and Years 3-6 (KS2). We have been rated by Ofsted as Good (March 2020) and work closely with Montgomery Primary Academy, our partnership school sharing practices and procedures.
We are looking for a passionate, motivated and dedicated Teaching Assistant Apprentice, who has an interest in Deaf Education, to work in partnership with teaching and other educational support staff. You will need to be caring, enthusiastic and flexible with the ability to work under the direction of the DLB team, Class Teachers and also use your own initiative.
The successful candidate will support our Deaf pupil with language development and communication, so they can access the curriculum, participate fully in learning, experience a sense of achievement and develop independence in learning and other aspects of school life. Working as part of a small team requires a teaching assistant who is adaptable and able to work collaboratively with members of the school and wider community. You will be working alongside the Deaf Learning Base team (DLB). As part of the apprenticeship, the school will provide British Sign Language classes for you to gain BSL qualifications.
You will complete a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard. You may also be required to complete English and maths functional skills (depending on existing qualifications). Further information about the apprenticeship programme can be found here.
Your Trainer will meet with you in the workplace every 4 weeks. In between these meetings you will have dedicated time away from your job to work on the apprenticeship and collate evidence for your apprenticeship e-portfolio with ongoing support from your Manager and Trainer.

To be eligible for the Apprenticeship, applicants must have resided in the UK or EEA for 3 years prior to the start of the Apprenticeship. Please note: applicants must not have already completed a Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship.

This will be a fixed term position and the duration of the apprenticeship will be determined by the job role and current skills. The typical duration of the apprenticeship is 21 months, however, can be longer or shorter depending on existing knowledge, skills and experience, up to a maximum length of 26 months.
