Job Description

You will work within a team of TransferWise's software developers with a product mindset to expand TransferWise in Latin America; changing how people send, receive and spend money. You are not just a developer, you are a customer champion and care about the quality of the code.

Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Attending daily stand up to sync up with the team and make sure we are doing the most impactful work
  • Learning and contributing to the team's processes and standards
  • Participate and help decide what the team should focus on during agile planning meetings
  • Integrating with many banking partners and internal systems using all kind of communication channels: SFTP, REST APIs, messages (Kafka), gRPC
  • Monitoring operational issues and improving alerts & dashboards
  • Communicating with other teams the features that you develop
  • Keeping Operations, product and partners updated
  • Keeping the services that we own to a high standard: updating libraries, frameworks and following the company latest recommendations
  • Learning from best practices communicated to the whole engineering team and driving them within our team
  • Learning about different countries payment systems and local payment methods; using what you have learned to drive the best solutions
  • Taking responsibility for owning your changes all the way through to prove that they work well – and continue to work well – in production, with the help of more experienced team members

Future Prospects

  • After your Software Engineering apprenticeship, you can progress into a junior developer role (this includes web and app development)
  • You'll have the skills to continue growing within a tech team, and have enough knowledge/experience to pick up new languages with ease. Software Engineering Level 4 will also provide a good foundation for transitioning into data science

Reality Check

Skills Required

  • Team player and excellent attention to detail
  • Communication - you have to be willing to practice and learn in the job. We will guide you and you will see plenty of good examples in the team

Qualities Required

  • Be willing to keep other teams and profiles aware of your changes and keep them up to date on the tasks that you are owning
  • If you can speak some Spanish or Portuguese (or are looking to learn) you will have plenty of opportunities to do so. But don't worry, this is not essential

Qualifications Required

  • Five GCSE grades A*-C (9-4) or equivalent, including English and maths
  • Level 3 qualification (A level, BTEC or equivalent)
  • Three months' prior coding experience
