We are looking for a technically savvy and resourceful apprentice to join the innovative and exciting world of software and web development.

About the Company.

Our client is an experienced software company that helps the owners of small, ambitious businesses to overcome obstacles, to achieve greater profitability and commercial success. They create innovative products and develop bespoke systems that make business operations more efficient, streamlined and manageable.

They are experts in Ruby on Rails, the tried-and-tested development platform that underpins some of the worlds leading online services.

Job Role.

As a Level 3 Software Developer Apprentice, you will be undertaking a recognised apprenticeship qualification including Microsoft certifications, at the same time as working as part of the companys software development team.

You will work as part of the team to learn about the latest technologies the company uses to deliver what they need, including CSS, Java Script and HTML to name a few. You will be assisting with projects and gaining on the job knowledge whilst gaining a qualification.

After training you will be part of a team developing Apps and Websites using Ruby on Rails software.

Eventually you will be:

  • Responsible for in-depth specification of all projects with the rest of the team
  • Planning, development and ownership of internal automation development
  • Be central to creating / adapting innovative digital solutions with the development team

Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship, you will receive training through blended learning. This combines online technical training within a virtual classroom, as well as real-world and practical experience with your employer. The skills, knowledge and experience you will gain whilst on the programme are invaluable, giving you the best possible start to your professional career within the IT industry.

Future Prospects

A permanent position is available on completion of the apprenticeship.

Skills Required

  • A desire to learn Ruby on Rails software
  • A genuine passion for problem solving and development of best practices
  • Experience of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bulma, React or jQuery

Qualities Required

  • The company require a bright, enthusiastic and hardworking individual with a genuine desire to learn and to build a career in technology
  • The company are looking for someone with a positive, highly self-motivating, can-do attitude and who is not afraid to ask questions

Qualifications Required

To be considered for this role, you must have a C/4 grade in both GCSE Maths and English, and in three or four other subjects at least. You will have gained a GCSE, BTEC or A Level in IT or have some practical experience with software, coding and programming.

Training Provided


Computer Programming - 101 Delve deep into modern programming in its various forms. Explore desktop, web and mobile app development along with concepts such as machine learning and AI.

Databases - Gain a practical understanding of databases including design, queries, administration and maintenance.

Development Methodologies and Testing - Explore the major development methodologies such as agile and waterfall and testing techniques to understand how to develop quality software as a team. Business Context Understand the business context in relation to software development.
