Job Description

Quantity Surveyors are the problem solvers of Virgin Media. Each day, they hunt down problems within the business and resolve them, whether that’s saving money through initiatives, dealing with contractors or working on important reports.

Responsibilities

Are you a keen problem solver with a passion for numbers? Would you like to study, learn and work towards a professional qualification? Join us on our Quantity Surveyor Apprentice Scheme and you can have it all!

Be the person we come to for resolutions.

Quantity Surveyors are the problem solvers of Virgin Media. Each day, they hunt down problems within the business and resolve them, whether that’s saving money through initiatives, dealing with contractors or working on important reports.

Build skills for the future:

On this apprenticeship, you’ll own responsibilities that make a real difference to the Virgin Media business. You will need to communicate with the Commercial team, and teams across our business, to complete your tasks.

This could include:

  • Reviewing cost estimates and plans to ensure that projects are not being under/over paid
  • Agreeing allowance of the Compensation Events with our Build Partners
  • Managing budget and spend profiles to identify ways to make the most out of our money
  • Updating schedule cost data sets to ensure they’re consistent, accurate and aligned
  • Analysing the impact on costs of Change Requests

What we look for?

Day-to-day, this role is extremely number focused, so you’ll have to be comfortable working with high value numbers with lots of impact on the overall business. You need to be personable and happy to put yourself out there as building a long-standing network is very important. Flexible working is available, but you will be expected to attend the office regularly in order to learn and collaborate with the team.

Other skills we’re looking for include:

  • Understanding of complex written documents
  • Methodical thinking
  • Data analysis

We’re 100% committed to having a workforce that represents every part of our society, so we’re keen to hear from candidates of all backgrounds and circumstances. The only barrier to applying would be if you didn’t have the right to work in the UK and were unable to obtain it without our support.

What’s in it for you?

During your time on the scheme, you’ll build skills and experience that you’ll be able to carry with you through your career lifetime. You’ll work towards a Quantity Surveying Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship, which is secured with a final assessment, as well as a Level 4 Constructions & Built Environment BTEC. To make sure you can reach the locations you may be required to work in this apprenticeship you'll receive a vehicle allowance of up to £5,500 per year as well as our other amazing benefits:

  • 25 days holiday
  • Your birthday off every year
  • Employee discounts on mobile, broadband and TV services

...and loads more!

What is involved with studying for an apprenticeship?

Your apprenticeship is made up of learning on the job, but also gaining the academic skills to put into practice in your day-to-day job. As a result, you'll complete the apprenticeship as part of a structured learning programme alongside working in the role. The learning programme is made up of a suite of modules and milestones and you’ll be required to evidence your work against these modules via tasks and assignments. For some apprenticeships, you may also undertake additional technical qualifications, which include studying for, and taking an exam. Once you have completed your modules and milestones, you’ll then move to your End Point Assessment (EPA) which is typically made up of an interview and a project. Once you pass this stage, you will receive your apprenticeship qualification with us.
