We have a fantastic opportunity for an Apprentice to join our team in York and learn to provide a surveying service to support the Sales Organisation’s work winning objectives and to support bid and delivery teams in the management of costs.


What you will do in your working day

As part of our Sales Division you will assist in the provision of a surveying service to support work winning objectives & manage project costs.  As you develop you will gain responsibility of your own projects.

You will

  • Prepare and submit detailed quotation documents for customers
  • Obtain quotations for subcontract works
  • Attend meetings in support of the selling and order management processes
  • Identify, analyse & develop responses to commercial risks
  • Assist in valuing work and arranging payments

The training you will be getting

As an apprentice with Portakabin you will attend Leeds Beckett University on a day release basis to study a Quantity Surveying Degree in order to gain a BSc (Hons), along with Chartered Membership of the RICS. 

You will also carry out a structured in-house development programme to attain the relevant skills, knowledge and behaviours required to achieve your apprenticeship. 

Throughout the duration of your apprenticeship you will be appointed a workplace mentor to support you with your learning.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

On successful completion of your apprenticeship you could potentially  secure a full-time position with Portakabin and further your career with us, dependent on business requirements.

Reality Check

We require a minimum of: • 5 GCSE’s Grades 9-4 (A*-C), including Maths and English or equivalent • 3 A-Levels Grades A*-C or equivalent • Preferably some understanding/knowledge of construction • Advanced entry: for applicants holding a Level 4 qualification / BTEC HNC in a construction related subject, it may be possible to enter at Level 5.
