Job Description

As a Quality Control Apprentice for Mylands your goal will be to provide quality control and assurance for Mylands products, ensuring products are manufactured to the highest standard. This will be a great opportunity for anyone with a keen eye for detail, who can remain focused to ensure the level of quality remains.

Responsibilities

Founded in 1884, Mylands is one of the world’s oldest manufacturers of premium/luxury paints and wood finishes based in London and holds the ultimate seal of approval – the Royal Warrant. Since the 1920s, Mylands has grown up with the British film industry, working on the biggest productions of TV, film, and theatre, including Harry Potter, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Star Wars and James Bond.

Still a family business after over six generations of experience, we are at an exciting point of growth and are looking for a Quality Control Apprentice to join our Mylands Family.

As a Quality Control Apprentice for Mylands your goal will be to provide quality control and assurance for Mylands products, ensuring products are manufactured to the highest standard. With support from your mentor, you will be trained in how to work safely in a quality-controlled laboratory, whilst maintaining excellent housekeeping and in accordance with Health and Safety, environment, and risk management systems.

Other duties you will be responsible for with training, include:

  • Recording all results clearly and accurately
  • Carrying out analysis of data and making recommendations on next steps
  • Communicating key results to manager, colleagues, and production
  • Working efficiently and safely, following lab procedures to maintain high safety standards
  • Maintaining laboratory stocks of raw materials and equipment
  • Building good working relationships with colleagues and members of other teams across the business
  • Fulfil other reasonable duties assigned by the line manger

The Advanced Level Apprenticeship (Level 3 Laboratory Technician) provides individuals with a sound knowledge base that can support them in undertaking further learning and development of their careers.

Future Prospects

  • Once you’ve completed your apprenticeship, you may be offered a more permanent job with Mylands. If not, your qualification will open doors elsewhere in a related field. Or you might decide to move on to a higher-level apprenticeship where available

Skills Required

  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office)
  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy
  • Attention to detail
  • The ability to show an interest in science, or laboratory testing

  • Excellent team worker with the ability to bring other people along
  • Positive, proactive Can-Do attitude

Qualifications Required

  • Ideally English, maths and science GCSE minimum 4/C grade or equivalent (however lower grades will be considered, so don’t be put off)

Training Provided

  • Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship Standard
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
