Job Description

Responsibilities

This is a junior entry role within the UK Purchasing department. The Purchasing Apprentice will support the Team with regards to all aspects of purchasing and receive training and development to progress to a Buyer position.

The Purchasing Apprentice will be responsible for the following:

  • Monthly reporting duties: Analyse system data against Budget (covering the Reporting Month, Year to Month and Full year actual + forecast); Highlight and provide full detail of any gaps to Budget; Administration of all related reports.
  • Support Purchasing activities related to Change Requests, Concessions and Supplier Requests for Engineering Approvals
  • Manage and maintain system data to meet Purchasing Hygiene report targets
  • Support and resolve invoice and purchase order queries
  • Raising of purchase orders to support business needs (Tooling, VAVE samples and stationary)
  • Support with obtaining and maintaining Supplier NDA and Credit ratings within a data base
  • Support with New Product Introductions, sourcing of suppliers and ordering of initial samples in line with Project timescales
  • Support with Product ramp down into Service, working with cross functional team to ensure no overstock of parts/materials
  • Support the Purchasing team, analysing supplier cost performance by Project against Budget, identifying risks and opportunities
  • Support cross functional initiatives
  • Sourcing of specific Indirect spend projects, identifying preferred supplier base, release of specification, negotiating with supplier to final sourcing agreement and contract, below Budget and within agreed timescale to support future development
  • Ensure the department complies to the CANDO programme regarding the organisation of the working environment
  • Support with the conformance and continual improvement of the company Quality Management System to IATF 16949, Environmental management system ISO14001, Occupational Health and safety management system ISO45001 and customer specific requirements within your process and job responsibilities
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Purchasing Manager

Future Prospects

  • There is the intention for a full-time role to be offered to the successful and suitable candidate upon completion of the apprenticeship

Reality Check

This role is temporary with the potential to become permanent after completion of the apprenticeship.

Skills Required

The ideal Purchasing Apprentice will have the following skills and experience:

  • Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Positive attitude with good communication skills and display a team approach
  • Analytical, numerically astute with good problem-solving skills
  • Able to work unsupervised and well under pressure

Qualifications Required

  • GCSEs, or equivalents, in maths and English with at least a grade 4/C are required

Training Provided

Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship Standard. You will complete a 15 month apprenticeship which includes 10 days at the PETA training centre in Cosham. You will be supported every 6 weeks with visits from your PETA Learning & Development Coach. Functional skills if needed.
