Job Description

Perkins Group Services Limited, part of the Cathay Group, is looking for an apprentice purchasing administrator to join our team. You'll learn about and be involved in the buying of the products we sell including toys, stationery, household products, medical products and greetings cards.


As part of an experienced team, you'll be supporting with regular tasks and start to take on more responsibility as you progress. You'll be working with:

Stock and Order Management:

  • Monitoring stock levels and generating stock and sales information including an annual stock take
  • Entering data on all products, displays and POS
  • Generating and following up orders, updating arrival dates, and keeping sales/customer service team advised
  • Updating purchase order calendar entries weekly from suppliers


  • Obtaining offers for standardized products.and performing regular margin reviews to maintain set margins
  • Gathering product data for new products, including barcodes, dimensions, weights, for multiple accounts
  • Continuously updating Perkins/OPC websites with product related data
  • Dealing with franchisee/customer product claims, liaising with warehouse/accounts on credits and investigating faulty stock

Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Skills Required

We need a proactive, structured and diligent person who has a sense of pride in doing things well and properly. 

Someone who is computer literate and analytical, with good communication skills, responsible and well organized. 

The person needs to be able to multi-task, prioritize and execute with excellence all tasks assigned with minimal supervision. 

Great attention to detail. Ideally someone with potential to take additional responsibilities in purchasing later.

Qualifications Required

4 GCSEs at grade C/4 and above or equivalent, which must include English and maths.

Training Provided

You will receive the majority of your training on the job and will be required to attend college on a term time day release (fortnightly) basis throughout the apprenticeship.
