Job Description

Adam Matthew Digital is a publisher of primary sources for teaching and research in the social sciences and the humanities. They are now looking for a Publishing Assistant Apprentice to join their team!


What will the apprentice be doing?

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality check digital primary source images, audiovisual material, XML metadata and transcriptions
  • Organise and create metadata for archival collections; including cataloguing/indexing manuscripts, visual and printed primary sources
  • Liaise with technical partners and suppliers to provide feedback on outsourced work and communicate issues to the project manager
  • Research, write and proof editorial content for projects; including for example thematic guides, collection guides, chronologies and biographies
  • Run technical processes for generating OCR (optical character recognition) and XML
  • Test the accuracy and user experience of digital resources and provide feedback
  • Represent AMD in a positive and professional manner to external parties, including suppliers, consultant editors and members of the scholarly community

Additional duties:

  • Visit archives to assist with the count and assessment of material for inclusion in projects
  • Attend and report on conferences, to keep department up to date with current scholarships and liaise with members of the academic community
  • Conduct research on current trends in digital scholarship
  • Contribute to Company’s social media objectives including producing blogs
