Job Description

Adam Matthew Digital is a publisher of primary sources for teaching and research in the social sciences and the humanities. They work with libraries and archives around the world to support students and researchers in their learning and teaching. They are now looking for a Publishing Assistant Apprentice to join their team!


Main duties include:

  • Quality check digital primary source images, audiovisual material, XML metadata and transcriptions
  • Organise and create metadata for archival collections; including cataloguing/indexing manuscript, visual and printed primary sources
  • Liaise with technical partners and suppliers to provide feedback on outsourced work and communicate issues to the project manager
  • Research, write and proof editorial content for projects, including for example thematic guides, collection guides, chronologies and biographies
  • Run technical processes for generating OCR (optical character recognition) and XML
  • Test the accuracy and user experience of digital resources and provide feedback
  • Represent AMD in a positive and professional manner to external parties, including suppliers, consultant editors and members of the scholarly community

Additional duties:

  • Visit archives to assist with the count and assessment of material for inclusion in projects
  • Attend and report on conferences, to keep department up to date with current scholarship and liaise with members of the academic community
  • Conduct research on current trends in digital scholarship
  • Contribute to Company’s social media objectives including producing blogs

Skills Required

  • Organisational skills and ability to manage tasks independently to deadlines
  • Some knowledge in MS Excel
  • Oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to learn new tasks and processes quickly
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Interpersonal skills to build relationships with in-house staff and external partners
  • Interested to find out how undergraduate/degree-level students learn and how academics research
  • An interest in creating resources that help other people learn and research
  • Intrigued by subjects such as history, literature, sociology, theatre studies, culture and politics

Qualifications Required

You’ll need to pass a face to face screening interview with our Talent Team (don’t worry, we’re a friendly bunch) and sit initial assessments in Maths and English.
