Job Description

The Premises Apprentice will support the delivery of the responsibilities of the Estates team function across the Trust in complying with health and safety and other legislation and organisational policies and procedures. You must be willing to commit to undertaking a two year Level two IWFM Apprenticeship programme with the Trust.

Responsibilities

The Academy Premises Apprentice will:

  • Identify child safeguarding concerns by being vigilant for signs of abuse or neglect
  • Take appropriate action and report concerns to the Designated Person for safeguarding and follow the Trust’s child protection and safeguarding policies
  • Maintain an attitude of ‘it could happen here’ when it comes to safeguarding
  • Be a role model and take a lead in ensuring excellent professional practice across the Cirrus Primary Academy Trust
  • Ensure equal opportunities with regard to all aspects of practice and provision
  • Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be directed by the Academy Premises Manager/Supervisor
  • Work outside the Trust as requested to support other schools
  • Participate in any arrangements to appraise your performance as Academy Premises Apprentice and commit to furthering your professional knowledge and skills by identifying training needs and participating in further training
  • Work with Trust staff and with nominated contacts in each of the Trust’s academies.
  • To provide first aid to staff or visitors when required and according to training received
  • To maintain the building and grounds by participating in cleaning duties, ensuring that the academy’s premises are cleaned in accordance with the academy’s standards and methods including taking into consideration COSHH.
  • To participate in all aspects of the academy building, land and assets, including upkeep, care, maintenance, security, health and safety and facilities management in line with statutory and regularity requirements
  • Assist the Academy Premises Manager/Supervisor in ensuring all areas, internal and external, are clean and devoid of litter, vegetation, leaves etc. and that all entrances and thoroughfares are clear of obstruction that could be hazardous
  • Assist the Academy Premises Manager/Supervisor in ensuring that recycling/refuse points are clear and accessible
  • Taking delivery of stores, materials and other goods received by the academy and storing them in line with health and safety procedures
  • General porterage duties as required by members of the academy staff
  • To draw attention to the Academy Premises Manager/Supervisor any repairs or maintenance required at the academy

  • To ensure during extreme weather under direction from the Academy Premises Manager/Supervisor that the premises are accessible and safe (eg during periods of snow or ice that grit is applied effectively)
  • Contribute to energy efficiency by making sure all unrequired lighting or equipment is turned off and regularly monitored. Replacing lighting mechanisms when required
  • Be able to lock and unlock academy premises enabling and disenabling relevant alarm systems and securing the premises, making sure that the academy is empty upon locking. Provide access to site in the event of emergency situations
  • Prevent trespass and unauthorised vehicles entering academy site
  • Carry out recognised procedures and designated tasks during emergency procedures e.g. Fire Drills, etc.
  • To conduct all repairs to the assets of the Trust within his/her ability, training and Health and Safety constraints
  • Follow the procedures for the safe management of contractors including the adherence to CDM regulations and the compilation of RAMS before any work is started
  • Provide clear, consistent and quality health and safety advice and guidance as required
  • To set out furniture, equipment and other required materials for events, lettings and mealtimes as instructed
  • To supervise out of hours lettings when required
  • To collect and dispose of waste, refuse and surplus materials as part of a regular routine or when required
  • To ensure that toilets and sink areas are ready to use and that soap, toilet rolls and hand towels are replenished
  • Assist the Academy Premises Manager/Supervisor health and safety records updating and responding to items identified by pupils, staff or visitors
  • To take ownership of various projects to meet the needs if the Trust in order to achieve project goals and assist the overall effectiveness of the department

Skills Required

Relevant experience in an estates and facilities role

  • A good standard of general education
  • Ability to understand basic Health and Safety regulations relating to estates function
  • Ability to understand relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with, and the protection of, children
  • Ability to operate basic machinery
  • High level personal organisation and time management skills
  • Ability to use problem solving skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Technical skills in using computerised systems (eg Microsoft Office, Centrastor. EVERY etc
  • A thorough understanding of data protection principles and integrity and confidentiality regarding personal data

Qualities Required

  • An ability to establish positive working relationships with colleagues and pupils through modelling very high levels of professionalism, commitment and integrity

Qualifications Required

Relevant and recognised technical qualification (or experience) in a trade (Carpentry, electrician etc.)

Training Provided

You will recieve on the job training and one day a week of learning within a college.
