Job Description

Project Managers are the backbone of AQA’s projects, they make sure things are done on time, in budget and they have the impact that they need to for the needs of the business. They work as a part of the Business Solutions Group, who deliver leading tech solutions that underpin AQA’s critical day to day operations.

Responsibilities

What will the apprentice be doing?

This is a Hybrid opportunity, with up to 3 days a week working from home.

What will the role involve?

Project Managers are tasked with learning and working alongside their BSG Team colleagues to make strategic changes that benefit AQA customers. They work with many people across the business, like IT professionals and leading tech service providers, to handle a variety of stakeholders and take responsibility for the delivery of tech solutions. To be able to do this, Project Managers need to be able to understand and appreciate the structure and dependencies of other departments.

Activities:

Follow the right methods to make sure that projects are high quality and meet the needs of the business and the programme within the deadline and budget set.
Create plans, business cases and present management information in a clear way to allow for easy understanding and decision making.
Work as a part of the BSG Team and with the rest of the business to ensure that AQA projects are in line with capacity plans and available resources.
Effectively manage risk and stakeholder expectations.
Work and communicate closely with AQA and the IT Team keep projects moving forward and ensure that any issues impeding progress are identified, shared, and resolved quickly.
Build and maintain connections with project and portfolio governance groups as well as key stake holders with a high level of communication to make sure project progress is always clear.
Actively seek out opportunities to improve best practice and demonstrate application of good administration and lessons learned as part of a continuous improvement cycle.

This role sits within the BSG Team, who deliver amazing tech solutions that help AQA run day-to-day. The BSG Team shapes and enables the future of AQA, so the Project Manager will be involved in some of the exciting solutions that’ll keep AQA evolving! As well as your team, you’d need to interact with stakeholders and other AQA departments so they’re looking for someone with great interpersonal skills that loves working as part of a big team.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will study for a Level 4 Associate Project Manager qualification over this 24-month apprenticeship. You will spend 80% of your time learning on the job, and 20% working towards your apprenticeship.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

AQA are also committed to continuing your development. As you go through your apprenticeship, you will be encouraged to talk about your future with AQA and all future progression will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This could mean further apprenticeship opportunities or qualifications to broaden your knowledge and skill set, or opportunities to move into a permanent role within the business upon successful completion of your apprenticeship.
