Job Description

We are an independent cafe bistro looking for an apprentice to work as part of our small, friendly team. No experience necessary but you will have a desire to learn about food preparation and presentation, and the wider aspects of how a busy kitchen cafe works.


Based mainly in the kitchen area, you will assist in preparing and cooking breakfast, snacks and light lunches including sandwiches

Sweet items include cakes, milk shakes and ice cream desserts, there are opportunities to develop new ideas in this area

You will work Wednesday to Sundays, with days off on Monday and Tuesday. Start time 9.00, finish time 3.30pm, with a 30 min break (unpaid). Please be aware this role includes weekend working.

Duties include:

  • Maintaining excellent standards of personal and food hygiene
  • Producing a range of food items meeting portion controls, and budgetary constraints
  • Ensuring compliance with all Health & Safety procedures, menu specifications and recipes
  • Adapting and producing dishes to meet special dietary, religious and allergenic requirements
  • Serving customers efficiently in a timely and polite manner
  • General housekeeping to ensure a high level of cleanliness throughout the premises

Qualifications Required

Level 1/2 maths and English are desirable or equivalents

  • Functional Skills in maths and English – progress as appropriate to starting point
