Do you want to be a police officer? Would you like to study for a degree in Professional Policing Practice – without tuition fees? Entry into the police service has changed – and West Mercia Police is one of the first forces in the country to recruit officers to study for a degree apprenticeship while they work.

Our three-year work-based learning programme will see you earning and learning whilst studying towards a Staffordshire University degree in Professional Policing Practice. You'll have a student card and have access to all of the University facilities, as well as the support of a virtual community.

When you’re not studying, you will work with police colleagues on rotation across our teams. Daily duties will vary dependent upon your rotation and you will have the opportunity to gain experience as part of our neighbourhood policing, frontline response, and investigations teams.

You will be a part of our policing team from your first day and will be helping to solve some of the most serious crimes and catch those responsible.

Duties may include:

  • Responding to calls for help from the public
  • Investigating crimes and offences
  • Interviewing suspects and making arrests
