Do you want to be a police officer? Entry into the police service has changed and the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) offers you the opportunity to study for a degree in Professional Policing Practice – without tuition fees. West Yorkshire Police is recruiting student officers to study for a degree apprenticeship while they work.

Responsibilities

The general duties of a police officer include:

  • Responding to calls for help from the public
  • Investigating crimes and offences
  • Interviewing suspects and making arrests
  • Giving evidence in court
  • Assisting and protecting the most vulnerable in communities

As a police constable degree apprentice, you will study, both in the classroom and in the workplace, to gain the knowledge to become a competent police officer.

The academic side of the learning programme will be delivered by our partners, Leeds Trinity University, and experienced police trainers at our training Complex at Carr Gate, Wakefield and LTU’s campus in Horsforth, Leeds.

When you are not studying, you will work with police colleagues on professional rotations across operational policing teams. Daily duties will vary dependent upon your rotation and you will have the opportunity to gain experience as part of our neighbourhood policing, frontline response, and investigations teams.

You will be a part of our policing team from your first day and will be serving the communities of West Yorkshire by protecting the vulnerable and helping to solve some of the most serious crimes and catch those responsible.

During your on the job training you will work in one of the five policing Districts named below:

  • Bradford
  • Calderdale (Halifax and surrounding areas)
  • Kirklees (Huddersfield & Dewsbury)
  • Leeds
  • Wakefield
