Our ambition? Provide car manufacturers with cutting-edge equipment and solutions to develop the clean and connected car of tomorrow. We have two multi-skilled maintenance engineering apprenticeship roles at Plastic Omnium's Edison Road plant.

The car is an adventure. An adventure promising freedom, industry and technological challenges. The car today is in transformation. Cleaner, safer and more connected, it points to the future of a more sustainable mobility. And at Plastic Omnium, we are innovating to shape it. We are making exterior parts and systems smarter. We are designing clean energy systems. And in the future, our connected modules will be an integral part of the autonomous car.

We are searching for 2 apprentices, who relish a challenge, to join our maintenance team within our state-of-the-art automotive factory.

  • Mechanical
  • Electrical

A standard day will be split between preventative and reactive maintenance, ensuring that any machine downtime is kept to a minimum. As you progress through your apprenticeship, the role will evolve into the following role:

Handle all maintenance requirements, performing daily and weekly maintenance activities. Manage the spares system and support new installations required to improve manufacturing performance.

Main Activities:

  • Provide a rapid response to breakdowns and repair accordingly
  • Perform daily and weekly maintenance planned activities
  • Maintain and improve OEE for equipment on systems and manage and maintain Planned Preventative Maintenance system
  • Ensure preventive maintenance of all machinery
  • Check spare part stocks in consignment warehouse

  • Contribute to TPM process
  • Record consumables in appropriate systems
  • Manage the spares system for all equipment

  • Ensure that all utility equipment operates in a safe manner and exceeds current legislation

As an apprentice, you will be supported by both a mentor in company and your training and development adviser from Make UK, in order to ensure that you have the best possible chance to grow into a confident and competent maintenance engineer. As you complete each year of your apprenticeships, you can look forward to regular pay reviews and further training opportunities.

This is an incredible opportunity for anyone with a passion for engineering. We are looking for successful candidates to begin ASAP, so when you apply, please ensure that you have finished your GCSEs, or equivalent, and are able to join us in February.

Future Prospects

Once you complete your apprenticeship, you will become a multi-skilled maintenance engineer. This could lead on to field service engineering, team leading or management.

Reality Check

Due to the fact that the factory runs 24 hours per day, this maintenance role, once you are not actively attending the training provider, will be on a continental shift pattern, working 4 days on then having 4 days off, doing both day and night shifts.

Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
