Job Description

Working in school and school sport partnerships, our apprentices are enrolled in work and training delivered by our tutors. For the right person, there is the opportunity to secure full-time employment and progress to higher level qualifications.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant/Sports Coach Apprentice who will be a great team player and enjoy working with pupils and staff to:

  • Raise standards of physical education for all pupils
  • Encourage pupils to become more active
  • Provide support for their social, emotional, and physical welfare
  • Support inclusion of pupils in all aspects of school life including afterschool clubs
  • Assist in organising lessons both theory and practical, acquiring relevant equipment, check grounds are safe for lesson e.g. grass pitch hard or soft from conditions
  • To work under direction of the Line Manager, class teachers and other staff to support the learning of whole classes, selected groups or individuals as instructed
  • Help develop training programmes and lessons for maximum efficiency, ensuring they meet desired outcome
  • To study relevant qualifications while you learn, these can range from health and safety, mentoring, to training for your apprenticeship qualification
  • Assisting with young people’s learning experience

Future Prospects

  • The right candidate may be employed permanently at the end of the apprenticeship

Skills Required

  • Ability to be a positive role model for pupils
  • Ability to keep pupils engaged with a positive attitude
  • Able to give clear and precise instructions
  • Organised and having the capability to set up sessions or lessons to a deadline
  • Knowledge of sport will be beneficial
  • Possess the ability to analyse problems for quick solutions
  • Perseverance and patience

Qualities Required

  • A motivated and determined individual with a commitment to the school and the course
  • Consistency, keeping a high standard of work plus work ethic throughout the apprenticeship
  • Effective communication skills, important between the apprentice and line manager, as well as apprentice and pupils
  • Leadership, maintain control of groups and inspire students
  • Positive attitude

Qualifications Required

  • 5 GSCE’s, or equivalents, (Grade A*-C or 9-4) including English or maths

Community Activator Coach Standard Level 2:

  • Supporting the Delivery of PE and School Sport
  • Employment awareness in active leisure and learning
  • Level 2 Functional Skills (where appropriate)
