Job Description

The role of the Teaching Assistant is to provide valuable, practical assistance to session coordinators both in structured classes and in extracurricular activities.

Responsibilities

A normal day would include:

  • Assisting the team in providing a friendly, caring environment to encourage and develop children
  • Assisting in planning, organising and carrying out planned activities and projects
  • To settle in and provide on-going support for children
  • To assist in maintaining children's records and carry out assessments
  • To assist in maintaining a safe, clean and tidy working environment
  • To attend relevant training as required
  • To contribute to and participate in team meetings/activities
  • To ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to and implemented
  • To communicate with parents and other visitors in a calm, friendly and efficient manner
  • To carry out other duties as requested by the session coordinators/support team
  • Preparation of teaching areas and resources for lessons
  • Ensuring the training rooms and polytunnel are kept in a safe condition for learning
  • Maintaining and arranging the orderly and secure storage of resources
  • Undertaking basic record keeping
  • Taking photos and videos during sessions as a record of student’s attainment and uploading
  • approved media to social media, being mindful of data protection and safeguarding policies
  • Supervision of students at break and lunch times
  • Cleaning equipment and resources between sessions and other relevant Covid-19 infection prevention

Qualifications Required

No formal qualifications are required, however candidates must be able to demonstrate Literacy and Numeracy skills equivalent to Level 1 of the National Qualification & Credit Framework.  Apprentices without English and Maths at Level 2 must achieve these prior to taking the End-Point Assessment (EPA) (see the Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard) Recruitment arrangements.

Training Provided

Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA)
