Job Description

Optical assistants are the first point of contact for patients. They welcome patients into the practise, carrying out pre-screening health tests and help patients select the correct frames and lenses for their prescription. With this varied role everyday is never the same.


Duties will include:

  • Greeting patients at the door as they enter the practice
  • Helping patients select the correct frame for their lenses
  • Helping patients choose frames that suit them well
  • Measuring the frames and ensure they fit perfectly
  • Ordering prescription glasses and contact lenses in for the patient
  • Making follow up appointments for patients
  • Making adjustments to the frames when the patient collects their glasses
  • Carrying out pre-screening tests such as retinal imaging, pressure and visual field testing
  • Explaining offers and products to patients
  • Taking payments 
  • Carrying out end of day banking 
  • Contacting labs to ensure patients glasses will be ready and delivered on time 
  • Booking patients into the clinic diary
