Job Description

The candidates will report to the team manager each day, who will then indicate which team the candidate will be assigned to. Within the team the candidate will assist the other Nursery Assistants to plan and organise both fun and educational activities whilst taking care of the children's personal needs.

Factors essential criteria:

  • Safeguarding minimum level 2 
  • To complete all academic aspects of the apprenticeship
  • To hold or be able to achieve English and mathematics GCSEs at level C or above
  • Desirable criteriap Paediatric first aid
  • Food hygiene certificate

Main responsibilities:

  • To provide a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors, at all times
  • To ensure that the nursery is a safe environment for children, staff and others
  • To develop partnerships with parents/carers to increase involvement in their child’s learning & development
  • To be responsible for any tasks delegated by the Nursery Director, Nursery Manager and Deputy manager
  • To complete all academic aspects of the apprenticeship

Main activities:

  • To provide a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors, at all times
  • To deliver an appropriate play based Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum that enables children to make individual progress
  • To help ensure smart steps nursery meets Ofsted requirements at all times
  • To understand and work to smart steps nursery policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies
  • To plan activities which ensure each child is working towards the early learning outcomes
  • To be a key person
  • To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. daily attendance register, accident and incident book, risk assessments
  • To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the nursery and its curriculum, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents involvement
  • To work in partnership with senior management to update and review the self-evaluation and improvement plan
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed, in accordance with smart steps aims and objectives

  • To progress to Level 3 in Childcare for the right candidate

Training Provided

  • Full Training to Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Functional Skills Level 2 in maths and English if required
