Job Description

Vehicle Body Repair Technician Apprenticeship – Intermediate Level Apprenticeship A Vehicle Body Repair Technician is a highly skilled Engineer specialising in Vehicle body repair.

Responsibilities

Have you always wanted to be a qualified Body Repair Technician?

There is an exciting opportunity for an apprentice to work alongside qualified technicians where you will be trained in all aspects of body repair.

A Body Repair Technicians will learn about all aspects of repair including:

  • Inspection and damage assessment
  • Estimating on cost of repair
  • Striping down vehicles
  • Panel repair and preparation
  • Rebuilding vehicles and quality control

Future Prospects

Following the completion of your Intermediate Apprenticeship (18 to 24 months), we recommend that you continue onto an advanced apprenticeship (12 months) to become a fully qualified Light Vehicle Technician. There are then a number of opportunities for progression within the Motor Industry including: - Estimator - Senior Technician - Workshop Manager

Reality Check

The specific hours and days that you will be required to work and attend college will be discussed in more detail at the employer interview and by North London Garages once you have been accepted on to the Apprenticeship programme.

The successful candidate will be willing and able to travel to their place of work for 4 days and attend training at one of our centres for one day a week. This may involve commuting. Apprenticeships for 16 – 24 year olds are a Government priority. 16 – 18 year olds are fully funded with 19+ being partially funded and topped up by a contribution from the employer.

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £4.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in their first year of their apprenticeship. For a 19+ apprentice, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies after the first year in the apprenticeship. The Wages for Apprenticeship applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.

Skills Required

The ideal candidate must have a keen interest and a strong passion for the motor vehicle industry. Some previous work experience would be an advantage, however it is not essential.

You will need to demonstrate:

  • Excellent practical skills
  • The ability to work quickly and pay attention to detail
  • Good communication skills           
  • The ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Qualities Required

The successful candidate must be reliable, a positive and ‘can do’ attitude, be an excellent time-keeper, be responsible and share a true passion for motor vehicles with a willingness and desire to learn.

Qualifications Required

Maths & English at GCSE grade A to C  9/4 are preferred but not essential.

As part of our Initial Assessment process we carry out a basic skills assessment to measure your current level in English, maths and ICT.

NLG is looking for applicants that are capable of achieving at least Level 1 Functional Skill in each subject at the assessment.

Candidates with a GCSE grade C or higher in any of these subjects will not have to study them as part of their apprenticeship.

Training Provided

Level 3 Vehicle damage paint technician Standard.

You will shadow qualified technicians at work so that you are able to learn first-hand the various aspects of vehicle body and paint repair. As you progress through the course and your confidence and experience grows, you will be able to complete tasks on your own but under supervision.

One of our assessors will visit you in your work place to mentor you and assess your competence regularly. This is part of our close support network NLG provides to ensure that Apprentices are both enjoying and succeeding in their course.

North London Garages have rolling college courses which start approximately every 3 months. Our college site for body repair is located in Enfield (North London). To apply, you must be able to travel to college once a week.
