Job Description

Welbeck Publishing Group is an exciting independent publisher dedicated to publishing only the very best and most commercial books spanning a number of genres and categories. They are now looking for an Editorial Assistant to support the functioning of the adult non-fiction department in producing high-quality narrative & illustrated titles.


Key Responsibilities


  • Ensure the bibliographic system is up to date
  • General office administration, including contract administration
  • Arrange contractual complimentary copies for authors and licensors
  • Answer queries from readers, authors and other departments
  • Filter and respond to unsolicited submissions
  • Send out author questionnaire and photo requests
  • Arrange outgoing post and couriers for the department where necessary
  • Occasional cover of reception desk when required
  • Attend and minute editorial meetings


  • General editorial research (competition, potential authors, sales figures etc.)
  • Help create and update information sheets for each book
  • Create/update/check metadata, title information and marketing copy
  • Collate presentation material for sales pitches
  • Manage updates for paperbacks/reprints/new editions of existing books
  • Manage reprints with Production and Design
  • Take in proofreaders’ corrections to InDesign files
  • Collate proofreaders’ and authors’ proofs when required
  • Check revised proofs and indexes
  • Work towards taking on copywriting, editing and proofreading
  • Arrange file conversion and check eBook files for new titles

Skills Required

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Very high standard of written English
  • Experience of working on Mac in InDesign (Desirable)

  • Highly organized, enthusiastic and pro-active

Qualifications Required

  • You’ll need to pass a face to face screening interview with our Talent Team (don’t worry, we’re a friendly bunch) and sit initial assessments in Maths and English

  • Level 3 Publishing Assistant
  • Level 1/2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
