Job Description

A fantastic opportunity to gain Level 3 Engineering qualifications, becoming a Multi-Skilled Production Maintenance Member. Whilst at Toyota UK you will undertake practical training learning about hand tools, welding, machining, electronics, as well as spending time in the classroom to understand the theory behind the practical work.

Training in our ‘World Class’ ‘Toyota Academy’ you will undertake practical development learning about hand tools; welding; machining; electronics and many other important technical skills

You will also spend time in the classroom in order to understand the theory behind the practical work, including maths and science content.

The 44-month training programme will be delivered by Toyota Manufacturing UK Ltd and Burton & South Derbyshire College.

The training programme is in two stages:

Stage 1. Based in the ‘Toyota Academy’ for 22 months you will learn maintenance engineering technical theory, gain practical experience through rotation round different skills areas and undertake several personal development courses required to help you commence your career in production maintenance.

Stage 2. You will spend 22 months with our maintenance department completing a practical role learning how to apply your new skills.

Future Prospects

You will be employed on a full-time permanent contract with Toyota UK from day one. After successful completion of the scheme your career and development will continue with Toyota UK.

For the right people, there may be opportunity to study for further qualifications, such as a level 4 qualification or an engineering related degree.

Reality Check

There will be a weekly pay increase after successful completion rising to £642.00 per week.

Qualifications Required

To be eligible to apply you must have or be expecting 4 GCSE at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent) in maths, English and science.

Training Provided

Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA)
  • VRQ Level 3 Diploma in Engineering and Technology
  • Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance
  • Toyota Maintenance Way - Principles of Toyota Maintenance
  • Personal Development – e.g. Teamwork, Practical Problem Solving, Presentation Skills
  • Team Building Activity – A week away!
  • Health and Safety/Risk Assessment
  • Toyota Manufacturing Techniques

Additional Technical Skills:

  • Motors, protection and safety systems
  • Introduction to digital electronics, sensing devices, relay logic
