Maintaining machinery and equipment in the food and drinks industry, finding and resolving faults, to optimise production levels. The Engineering Department consists of 6 Engineers therefore this offers a fantastic opportunity to learn from skilled and experienced engineers alongside the qualifications obtained through Peterborough College.


We are looking to recruit somebody who can learn and grow into a Multi-skilled engineer encompassing single and three phase electrics, wiring of motors and fitting gearboxes, mechanical repairs i.e. bearings and drive assy’s, electro-pneumatic cylinders and hydraulic lifting equipment.

The Food and Drink industry is an exciting place to be a Maintenance Engineer. Companies employ Mechanical and/or Multi-skilled Maintenance Engineers according to the type of products they make.

Duties and Responsibilities will include:

  • Food and Drink Mechanical Maintenance Engineers will mainly work with mechanical and electrical equipment and production systems. Food and Drink Multi-skilled Maintenance Engineers will work with mechanical and electrical equipment plus highly automated programmable control systems
  • Both Mechanical and Multi-skilled Engineers need to maximise the benefits of the technology and equipment they work with. Depending on the type of product and plant in the company, engineering activities carried out will include routine maintenance, fault finding and diagnosis, testing and commissioning. They must ensure that maintenance activities contribute to optimising food and drink production levels
  • Food and Drink Mechanical and Multi-skilled Engineers must ensure that all maintenance activities are conducted safely, and practices comply with food safety legislation in this highly regulated industry. They must understand the key features of working with consumable products and how they this affects food industry maintenance practices.

Multi-skilled maintenance engineers will:

  • Understand the principles of electrical machines, testing electrical equipment and circuits
  • Understand the operation of process controllers within an engineered system
  • Commission and perform maintenance of instrumentation/process control systems
  • Perform maintenance of programmable control systems
  • Understand the requirements of electrical installations

Future Prospects

  • To become a fully trained Multi Skilled Engineer to support the current engineering team with a view to future personal development
  • The Engineering team will be responsible for the installation and commissioning of new product packaging machinery to assist the company to becoming 100% an organic vegetable packing site

Qualifications Required

  • Minimum 4 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or equivalent, including mathematics, English and a science

Training Provided

  • Level 2 English and maths
  • Level 3 Diploma in Food and Drink Engineering Maintenance
  • A Professionally Recognised Level 3 Engineering Qualification
  • A Food & Drink Maintenance Engineering Level 3 Qualification Graded at: Pass, Merit or Distinction
  • Attendance at college will be required
