The Apprenticeship provides for the training and instruction of successful candidates to become Field Service Engineers for KHS UK. A highly specialised role designed to support our partners across the country, as they utilise KHS machinery to fulfil the production needs of their businesses.

The successful candidates will join an ever-expanding team, with an emphasis on advanced learning in the fields of automation and process control.

This is a role with no set location from day to day, work activities will be performed according to the needs of the business, within a myriad of customer locations across the UK and Ireland.

The administrative team issue a schedule each week (subject to change), which informs on required work activities for the following week, more advanced notice is given if possible.

Day to Day Tasks include:

  • Assisting our partner’s with electromechanical maintenance across our installed base
  • Urgent breakdown support, onsite fault-finding tasks, and remote support in assisting with fault resolution
  • Basic – expansive modifications to existing equipment. These modifications include installing new electrical & mechanical parts, as well as modifying and commissioning machine PLC and SCADA software. Major modifications to significantly alter or improve machine capability also form part of the role
  • Installation and commissioning of new equipment in beverage processing, canning, kegging, bottling and other packaging applications
  • Providing “embedded” engineering cover for new projects and new customers
  • Project Planning
  • Training and further learning, within the UK and abroad
  • Communication with peers, KHS personnel worldwide, customers and third-party contractors

Future Prospects

  • KHS UK Ltd aims to offer permanent roles to all successful apprentices at the end of their training agreement wherever possible
  • Fifth Year to be used as improver year and as a potential gateway to higher education; Whilst also allowing for the consolidation of learnings required to be a “solo” Service Engineer. Completion of a project in this year, that is designed in some way to bolster the capabilities of KHS UK’s offering to the industry

Reality Check

  • First year will be at the MGTS Technical Centre in Coventry, to complete the first year off the job training. This role requires the Apprentice to hold a driving licence by July 2023 on return to company
  • Company car will be provided from year Two onwards, Travel and working away from home is compensated through the expense system. This is a UK wide service engineering role, the candidate will commit to on average four nights away from home per week; and be willing to travel internationally for training and service works
  • Working days are generally longer than average, (9-12 hours), with a measure of weekend working a requirement of the role. Flexibility is key in supporting our customers in the modern production environment. Additional working time is compensated in lieu and with further payment
  • The role requires a special commitment from the candidate, but offers outstanding rewards. Salary Year 1 £15,000 PA / Year 2 £19,500 - £22,500 PA / Year 3 £27,500-£30,500 PA

Qualities Required

  • This is a UK & Ireland role, working across the country will be extensive, the ideal candidate will have a passion for travel
  • There must be a willingness to stay away from home in performance of the candidates duties, an average of Four nights a week will be spent in hotels

Qualifications Required

  • Study to at least GCSE level, with minimum B / 9-6 Grades in maths, Physics, English Literature, IT, one other Science and Technology subject. A-levels preferred, C grade in maths / Science & Technology orientated subjects

Training Provided

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • Level 2 Award for Foundation Phase Gateway Assessment
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)
  • Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Engineering
