You will complete a comprehensive 3 Year programme in Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance.


Main areas of responsibility

  • Understand and become competent in using the various health, safety and environmental systems in place in order to comply with all internal and external health, safety and environmental requirements
  • Develop an understanding of the role and importance of the Engineering Department within the Long Products Business Unit, and its relationship with customers and their requirements
  • Develop an understanding of the operation of the plant and the production processes within the Business Unit, and the role of the Engineering Department in developing new and existing processes
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement process within the Engineering Department and within the Business Unit
  • Undertake in-house workshops and seminars
  • use computer systems effectively to record engineering activities as required
  • Work within the Engineering Department as directed to build knowledge and experience of modern planned maintenance techniques, fault diagnosis/repair, fault analysis and corrective project and development work
  • Achieve appropriate level qualifications such as NVQs, City & Guilds, Key Skills, Certificates and Diplomas as required.  You will be allowed to apply through the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre so you can enjoy the benefits of a student member and commence the path towards achieving Chartered status
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested

Qualifications Required

The chosen candidate must have 5 GCSE's or equivalent at Grade C or grade 4-9 under the new education grade system effective from 2016/2017 above, must include maths and English.

Training Provided

Training will follow the Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard

  • An employer approved Level 2 Foundation Competence qualification
  • An employer approved Level 3 Development Competence qualification
  • An employer approved Level 3 Development Technical Knowledge qualification
  • Apprentices without Level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking end point assessment

The Year one maintenance programme delivered at the AMRC Training Centre over a 26 week full time block programme will include the following compulsory units:

  • Handling over and confirming completion of maintenance activities 
  • Carrying out fault diagnosis on engineered systems
  • carrying out preventative planned maintenance on engineered systems
  • Maintaining mechanical equipment 
  • Maintaining electrical equipment
