Job Description

As a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice you will be responsible for manufacturing machines that are used within the quarrying and recycling industry. You will use a variety of engineering techniques, including all aspects of Fabrication, Machine turning and cutting and Precision Mechanical Fitting. Feel this could be the role for you? Responsibilities

Duties will include:

  • Cutting of raw steel using various techniques such as oxy-acetylene,
    plasma & traditional mechanical saws
  • Welding of raw steel components using manual electric arc & high
    deposition mig welding equipment
  • Machining of fabricated components and castings using manual and CNC machining
    centers to include lathe’s, horizontal & vertical borers and milling
    machining centres
  • Precision measuring & fitting of large bearings using traditional
    and modern technology
  • The use of Induction heaters
  • The use of Liquid Nitrogen    
  • Mechanical Assembly of large components using overhead gantry cranes
  • Hydraulic installations & fault finding
  • Testing of finished products
  • Applying Lean manufacturing tools & techniques
  • Working in a team environment

Future Prospects

  • Once fully qualified the successful Apprentice will have the opportunity to become a fully qualified mechanical fitter within Terex Coalville

Qualifications Required

  • GCSE grade C/4 or above in English and maths (or equivalent).
  • If you do not already meet these criteria, we will ask you to sit initial assessments to indicate which level you are currently working at

Training Provided

Engineering Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • Block release to our Stephenson campus, Coalville. (Part of the SMB Group)
  • Functional skills if necessary
  • On-the-job training
  • Off-the-job training
