Job Description

As our mechanical and electrical apprentice, you’ll work on projects with large diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics and pneumatics. With thousands of bridges, locks, pump stations, sluice sites, workshops, generating sets, & construction sites across our 2,000-mile network, there’s plenty to keep you busy!

Responsibilities

What will the apprentice be doing?

You will develop knowledge and understanding of Mechanical & Electrical systems and processes., helping the team carry out reactive repairs, planned maintenance and projects.

The role will give a great opportunity for the apprentice to work in an outside environment.

Assist the M&E team to ensure all equipment is appropriate for the task.
Support mechanical and electrical asset inspections. 
Undertake key duties associated with the mechanical and electrical maintenance of the waterway.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will complete your apprenticeship with both on and off-the-job training, with regular attendance (I day per week) at college to complete the Apprenticeship Standard in Maintenance and Operations engineering technician. All college costs are paid for by the Trust.  

Whilst on-the-job, you will work with supportive work buddies to develop knowledge and understanding of systems and processes. Assisting the team to carry out reactive repairs, planned maintenance, general works and projects.
