DGL Testing Services Ltd is currently looking to recruit for a Materials Technician to join the experienced team based In Sittingbourne.


The successful candidate’s duties and responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Carry out a range of soils/aggregates/concrete and Asphalt testing in line with current British and European standards
  • Carry out materials sampling and sample management
  • Responsible for all UKAS daily checks and environment monitoring
  • Identify and manage risk in all work activities
  • Communicating with both internal and external clients for testing requirements
  • Ensuring all test equipment is maintained, clean and calibration status is current

Future Prospects

Depending on performance and requirements, successful apprentices may go on to a full time role with the employer. The laboratory technician apprenticeship standard is a widely recognised qualification, allowing apprentices to become a Registered Science Technician (RSciTech), and further their career within the sector within a wide spectrum of laboratory related fields.

Skills Required

  • Be physically able to carry out the demands of the role as this will include manual handling and lifting
  • Previous site health and safety experience desirable
  • Possess good numerical and mathematical skills – attention to detail is paramount as we are a UKAS accredited laboratory
  • Ideally hold a CSCS card, but not essential
  • Previous site health and safety experience desirable

Qualities Required

  • Able to work both as part of a team and independently
  • Be enthusiastic, punctual and reliable
  • To complete activities in a methodical, safe and efficient manner
  • Willing to work long hours including nights and some weekends as required

Qualifications Required

  • GCSE C/4 or equivalent in maths, English and science

Level 3 Laboratory Technician Standard

Where necessary:

  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English
