Job Description

Initially supporting the existing mailing operative, you will get on the job experience and training in setting up and running a high-speed enclosing machine. Once comfortable, you will resume the main responsibility of setting up and running the machine, whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and documented quality checks.


Duties will include:

  • Responsible for the accurate setting up and loading of the Pitney Bowes and Kern enclosing machines
  • You may also be asked to operate any support machinery, for example folders, pressure sealers etc.
  • You must carry out QA checks and ensure that they match the signed samples, and that they are recorded onto the appropriate documentation
  • All paperwork must be filled out to a high level of accuracy and legibility
  • You are responsible for ensuring speed and quality of work is maintained along with accurate documentation
  • Any faults with the machinery is to reported directly to the production supervisor with full details and error codes if applicable

Reality Check

  • PHD pay staff monthly, Therefore for a four-week month, 35 hours x 4 weeks, x £5 per hour = £700 For those months where there are 5 weeks in a month, 35 hours x 5 weeks, x £5 per hour = £875 Generally, pay day is the last Friday of each month

Skills Required

  • A comfortable verbal communicator who is confident to express their thoughts
  • Basic skills on a computer, including email

  • Good time keeping and attendance must be maintained

  • Display a good work ethic
  • Positive, enthusiastic and a can-do attitude

Qualifications Required

  • Good school grades in core subjects
  • No further qualifications are required

Training Provided

Level 2 Lean Manufacturing Operative Apprenticeship Standard

  • Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
  • This apprenticeship is delivered through a combination of Work Based Assessment and day/block release
  • The programme will culminate in an End Point Assessment, where all the skills and knowledge gained on the apprenticeship will be formally tested
