Job Description

Due to continuous growth, FW Birketts is looking to invest further with its apprenticeship programme. Working towards becoming a full-skilled engineer with a machining (conventional and CNC) bias, you will benefit from a robust training and development plan and the best in-house mentoring support.

Responsibilities

As part of your 4-year apprenticeship, you will be trained and mentored to skilled engineer level in areas of:

  • In-house training by skilled engineers in conventional and CNC machining techniques
  • Loading, proving and programming CNC machines
  • High-end production
  • Prototyping
  • Inspection and quality practices
  • Health and safety training
  • Business improvement techniques
  • Other technical engineering tasks and duties, as required
  • "Off-the-job" training to gain UK recognised engineering qualifications

Future Prospects

FW Birketts have progression pathways for individuals who are committed and able. Past Apprentices have gone onto HE college and university for HNC and Beng courses in Mechanical Engineering.

Qualifications Required

  • 5 GCSEs at grade C / 4 and above or equivalent including maths, English and science (pre-requisites for college courses)
  • Additional engineering qualifications, such as BTEC Level 2 or Level 3 will be welcomed

Training Provided

  • Level 3 - Engineering Technician
  • Functional Skills if required

Year One - Day release at Appris, Bradford:

  • BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)

Year Two - Day release at Appris, Bradford:

  • EAL Level 2 Diploma in Machining (Foundation Technical Knowledge)

Year Three and Four - Day release at Appris, Bradford:

  • EAL Level 3 Diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge)

Year One through Year Four - Workplace Training and Mentoring:

  • EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Machinist (Development Competence)

Internal training, development and mentoring with highly skilled engineers in a variety of machining (CNC) areas and other engineering related duties and requirements.

In your 4th Year, you will continue to work towards your occupational competency in engineering and prepare for independent end-point assessments.
