Job Description

Play a pivotal role in the work of the Army around the world, ensuring our Armed forces have all the food, tools and equipment they need in any situation and in any environment.

Responsibilities

As a Logistic Supply Specialist, you will play a vital role in the logistical support required by the Army. Food, weapons, equipment – the Army needs all kinds of supplies, all the time. It’s your job to track, store and distribute stock - delivering everything needed on operations. You will also learn how to use cutting-edge IT systems and how to drive HGV’s and forklifts.

You can be employed in other organisations and undertake work placements with industries to understand best practice. You will also gain an understanding of IT systems used by other military alliances.

Duties will include:

  • Use Logistic Information Systems to help control the storage and distribution of kit and equipment, making sure supplies are always available
  • Work in barracks, combat units and warehouses as part of an Army Unit or attached to another organisation
  • Deploy all over the world on exercise and operations – wherever your expertise is needed
  • Train as a Material Accountant and gain your C+E Driving Licence

Future Prospects

  • As your career progresses, you’ll have the chance to work towards other qualifications both military and civilian, including membership of professional organisations such as the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport

Skills Required

  • You must have a basic level of fitness and be able to work well in a group

Qualities Required

  • We welcome people into the Army from all backgrounds
  • There is no ‘typical’ Soldier candidate
  • You don’t need any previous military experience, just an appetite to take on responsibility and be part of a team

Qualifications Required

  • GCSEs at 2/E or above in maths and English language

Training Provided

Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • You'll start with your initial military training which will teach you how to be a soldier - this will cover everything from fieldcraft to how to handle a rifle. If you join as a Junior Soldier (16 years 6 month to 17 years 5 months), you’ll do a 23-week basic military training course at Harrogate. If you join as a Regular Soldier (over 17 years 1 month), you’ll do the regular 14-week adult basic training at Pirbright or Winchester
  • Next, you will undertake your 15-week Combat Logistician course at the Defence School of Transport in Leconfield. During this, you will earn your Category C+E Driving Licence and study general service driver modules. This training also gives you the opportunity to gain a broader knowledge on the Royal Logistic Corps functions and roles
  • You will then complete your trade training at the Defence School of Logistics in Worthy Down to be qualified as a Logistic Supply Specialist Class 3. At this stage, you will be enrolled onto the Apprenticeship
  • Now your initial trade training is completed, you will be posted to your first job within the Royal Logistics Corps, where you will put what have learnt into practice and complete your apprenticeship over the next 9-12 months
