As a 1st Line Support Engineer, you will be part of a small internal IT department responsible for carrying out 1st Line duties. For the right person, there is the opportunity to secure full-time employment and progress to higher level qualifications.


Main responsibilities and duties: 

  • On site Printer hardware installation / Replace 
  • Build and reimage Laptops / Desktops 
  • Rollout upgrades on Laptops / Desktop 
  • Hardware replacements for Laptops / Desktop / peripherals  
  • Urgent attention for users
  • Register / Keep Asset track on the system 
  • Preparing new staff desktop / Laptop / phones   
  • Monitoring the Hardware in the Server Room 
  • Collection of hardware from leaving staff 
  • Keeping Stock count up to date 
  • Decommission of the hardware 
  • Help to develop his IT Skills by working closely with infrastructure Engineer
  • We can develop him on Software programming skills for our internal projects i.e. SharePoint etc.

  • QA’s apprenticeships are funded by the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), an executive agency of the Department for Education
  • To be eligible for a Government funded apprenticeship you must have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 consecutive years

Skills Required

  • Possess excellent problem-solving skills
  • Understand how IT impacts on profitability and business efficiency
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills

The following skills would be a particular advantage, but not essential: 

  • Windows Operating Systems 
  • Active Directory 
  • Basic VMWare and Citrix administration 
  • Anti-virus Server 
  • Back-up technologies 
  • Configuring printers, switches, routers and computers 
  • Firewalls 
  • MS SQL 
  • MS Office 

Qualities Required

  • The ability to manage a demanding workload & understand business priorities
  • Possess a genuine interest in IT, eager to keep your skills and knowledge up to date
  • Ability to explain technical solutions to non-technical end users
  • Travel to the Godalming office once a week
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required

Qualifications Required

  • 5 GCSE’s, grade A-C/7-4 including maths and English or equivalent

Training Provided

Infrastructure Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • Approximately 11% of training takes place in the QA learning centre classroom 
  • 9% is done in the workplace, through online training, face-to-face meetings with your QA Technical Skills Coach, or developing your portfolio
  • The remaining time will be spent on your workplace activity
