Job Description

During this 4-year rotational training programme which combines college-based learning with on-the-job training, you will be given the opportunity to experience different aspects of engineering, designed to provide you with an excellent foundation in the function. From day one you will be embedded in a team solving real world problems.

Responsibilities

During this 4-year rotational training programme which combines college-based learning with on-the-job training, you will be given the opportunity to experience different aspects of engineering, designed to provide you with an excellent foundation in the function. From day one you will be embedded in a team solving real world problems. You will get to work and collaborate with people in Caterpillar facilities worldwide. Your working week will also include time to study that will either be located at our Peterborough facility or at the facility of our partnered training provider allowing you to network and share experiences with other students further enhancing your learning.

Rotations will cover the following departments:

  • Maintenance: Our maintenance team members are critical to our business’ success as they possess the technical skills and know-how to maintain our production equipment and facilities. Maintenance apprentices will use computerised systems to aid the completion of routine maintenance, diagnose equipment faults and carry out repairs in a timely manner
  • Research & Development: Our Peterborough facility is home to the Caterpillar Europe Research & Development Centre, a state-of-the-art facility that works to perfect the technologies and certify solutions to help our customers be successful. Apprentices will maintain/support the facility services and be involved with the testing of current & new market products for engines, transmissions and electrified machine systems

At the end of the first year of the apprenticeship, you will progress into one of these two departments to continue the remainder of the scheme. This will be based on a combination of your preference, performance and demonstrated skills.

You will finish this apprenticeship with a nationally recognised qualification that could provide you with a competitive difference at no cost to you. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be a qualified Engineering Technician and be offered a position within our world-class team with plenty of opportunity for further long-term progression.

You will also be professionally recognised by the IMechE (Institute of Mechanical Engineers) upon completion.

Qualities Required

We are looking for self-motivated applicants who have enjoy learning new skills and working with a large team.

Qualifications Required

  • Maths & English GCSEs (or academic equivalent) at Grade C/Level 4 or above. Additionally, equivalent experience in industry may be considered recognising that further education will be required (studying alongside the apprenticeship)

Desired Qualifications

  • 5 GCSEs (or academic equivalents) at Grade C/Level 4 or above
  • A Science or Engineering subject or alternatively completed one-year full- time further education and achieved Performing Engineering Operations Level 2 (6 units) or equivalent qualification

NOTE: You can apply with predicted grades. If you’re successful at the interview stage, the job offer will be conditional on you achieving the required grades before September.
