Job Description

A wonderful chance to join an award winning equine assisted therapy and learning provider. We are looking to recruit a level 2 equine groom apprentice.

Spirit and Soul specialise in rehoming and rehabilitating unwanted horses and retraining them to be therapy horses. They work with adults and children with mental health difficulties, behavioural difficulties, and adults with cancer.

Spirit and Soul have a herd of 5-7 horses who are their therapy herd and will require looking after.

Over the coming months, they are also going to be expanding their services, and offering a Track livery and changing from looking after just their own herd of 21 (in total) to offering track livery services for to up to 15 horses.

Daily/key duties include:

  • Mucking out Barn
  • Feeding
  • Filling hay nets
  • Haying the track into the different hay stations
  • Picking feet/ grooming
  • Poo picking
  • Clipping/pulling/plaiting/trimming
  • Bathing
  • Rug changing
  • Basic First aid
  • Holding for vet/farrier/dentist

This therefore is a full-time role, which will be physically demanding and they also want a fully committed and responsible person to help facilitate this change. In return it will be a truly unique apprenticeship for the right person, as our main ethos is 100%, barefoot, bit-less and keeping horses the way in which nature intended. Experience of keeping horses in this way would therefore be advantageous.

If you want to be a key part of this and grow with Spirit and Soul as the livery side of what we do does, then this is a perfect opportunity for you.

Preferably the ideal candidate will have some experience of yard duties already.
