Responsibilities

Contessa Riding Centre has vacancies for students to train for BHS/ABRS exams.

We are a busy riding school and training centre based just outside of Ware, owned and run by Grand Prix Dressage Rider, Tina Layton BHSI. We specialise in Dressage and have some Advanced Dressage Schoolmasters offering trainees the rare opportunity to learn and experience the advanced movements.

One placement available for 16-19yrs old wanting to train for Equine exams at an approved training centre on a government apprenticeship scheme. Train in a work environment for Nationally recognized qualifications students receive training hours within your working day.

Duties may include:

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out/bringing in
  • Tack cleaning
  • Tacking up
  • Feeding
  • Filling hay nets
  • Clipping/pulling/plaiting/trimming
  • Bathing
  • Rug changing
  • Schooling
  • Riding
  • First aid
  • Exercising horses from the ground (lunging, horse walker, long reining, pessoa training etc.)
  • Holding for vet/farrier/dentist

Future Prospects

Possibility of Level 3 Senior Groom Apprenticeship on completion of Level 2.

Skills Required

  • Some equine experience would be beneficial

Qualifications Required

Must be able to work towards Level 1 or higher in Functional Skills maths and English (if not already attained).
