Job Description

Vintec is looking for a Apprentice Laboratory Analyst to join their team in Watford, Hertfordshire. The successful candidate will join a friendly laboratory team who undertake identification of asbestos. Committed to quality and integrity, Vintec ensures employees have the time and support to provide our clients with the highest standards of work.

Based at their Watford office, no two days are the same as a Vintec asbestos laboratory analyst. You’ll spend time testing samples in Vintec’s in-house lab and working as part of a close-knit, small, and friendly team. You’ll be supported and guided, learning on the job, by a team of experienced analysts to gain official qualifications that’ll boost your career.

As an asbestos laboratory analyst apprentice for Vintec, you’ll be training for your British Occupational Hygiene Society P401 qualification - Identification of Asbestos in Bulk Samples, alongside your lab technician apprenticeship. This will provide you with the skills to successfully identify materials, as well as gaining on-the-job laboratory experience. You’ll be working to ensure your clients environment is free from the dangers of asbestos and compliant with UK health and safety regulations.

Other duties may include:

  • Analyse bulk materials for the presence of asbestos
  • Book in samples for analysis
  • Prepare samples for analysis
  • Ensure deadlines are met
  • Follow procedures and ensure the high-quality standard is met
  • Keep the laboratory clean and tidy
  • Conduct daily face velocity checks
  • Store analysed samples in an orderly manner for easy retrieval
  • Administration and general office support when required
  • Maintaining impartiality and reporting any possible risks to impartiality
  • Ensuring work is conducted in line with the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012, and other statutory instruments, guidance or Methods published by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
  • Process data in line with the GDPR and Vintec’s Data Protection Policy, including safe usage, storing and sharing of data
  • Report data and cyber security concerns and breaches to line manager

Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you’ll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university or college environment.
