Job Description

This Degree Level Apprenticeship is perfect for you if you want an opportunity that will give you hands-on experience from day one. You will work in a fast-paced quality control laboratory, carrying out a wide variety of analytical tests on our process intermediates and final products.


The Degree Level Apprenticeship is perfect for you if you want an opportunity that will give you hands-on experience from day one. 

Duties will include:

  • You will be responsible for carrying out a wide variety of analytical tests on our process intermediates and final products to meet process safety and customer specifications
  • Core activities including asset maintenance and calibration and solution preparations
  • As the apprenticeship progresses you will be involved in wider site activities including occupational health monitoring and emission monitoring to fulfil our Environmental Permit, and research and development projects on the site

  • On completion of the Apprenticeship, candidates will be considered for any available permanent positions
  • This role is part of our talent planning for the future, and for the right person we are looking to continue to develop the Apprentice upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship

Reality Check

  • Please ensure that you currently live within, or can relocate to, a commutable distance of the site
  • Due to the nature of the degree, you must be able to demonstrate a responsible and mature attitude to your study and work-based activities
  • You must also be willing and able to travel to University of Bradford to complete the residential laboratory courses (two weeks per year; one week in January and one week in June – Covid-19 rules permitting)
  • Study time will form part of your working week
  • Lucite operates a 7-day working pattern
  • On rare occasions, the Apprentice may be asked to change their ‘weekend’ to Friday and Saturday / Sunday and Monday. On such occasions, the Apprentice would be compensated financially
  • Please be aware, if you are successful at interview, your offer will be conditional on passing a medical. Lucite International UK Ltd conducts alcohol and substance abuse testing prior to any placement in-line with their site policy

Qualifications Required

To be eligible for this position you will need:

  • 5 GCSE’s at grade A*-C (9-4) including maths and English and Science
  • A minimum of 112 UCAS Points from 3 or more A Levels (or equivalent) including Chemistry and another Science/maths subject
  • Candidates who have previously completed a Level 3 Lab Technician Apprenticeship, or who have relevant workplace experience, will be considered

Training Provided

Laboratory Scientist (Degree) Apprenticeship Standard:

  • Training to be provided will be a mixture of on-site training, e-learning and block release with University of Bradford
  • You will gain transferable core skills and knowledge, as well as skills specific to the working practices of Lucite International UK Ltd
  • The knowledge qualification will be a Degree (BSc Hons) in Chemistry
