As a Global Digital Exemplar Fast Follower, it is an exciting time at Milton Keynes University Hospital. We are now seeking an IT Technician (Apprentice) to play an important role in supporting our journey to becoming a state-of-the-art digital hospital.

You will be working within a friendly multi-disciplinary team within a fast moving and dynamic environment that will see you working with staff across the organisation and with a range of external partners.

Duties will include:

  • Taking ownership of faults and incidents and managing them by categorising and prioritising them in line with team procedures
  • Escalating any incidents and service requests that you can’t resolve, to senior members of the team
  • To work as a member of a team, encouraging knowledge sharing
  • Manage daily tasks and activities which may require reprioritisation to satisfy changing business needs
  • Follow agreed plans, procedures and instructions to complete tasks and activities
  • Safe transportation of IT equipment making use of trolleys as required
  • Ensure all installations & removals are documented
  • Participate in the auditing of hardware and software ensuring that trust asset registers are maintained
  • Assist with the maintenance, configuration, and operation of computer systems, network servers and virtualisation
  • Assist with Installing and managing hardware and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software problems by running diagnostics, prioritising, and assessing the impact of issues, and documenting problems and resolutions

Future Prospects

  • There may be permanent opportunities within the Hospital once the apprenticeship has been completed

Skills Required

  • Experience of current Microsoft desktop applications
  • Basic Understanding of PC Architecture
  • Able to investigate, analyse, and resolve problems
  • Good knowledge of and confident use of Microsoft desktop operating systems and applications
  • Excellent level of computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint) and other software

Qualities Required

  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high pressure situations
  • Self-motivated and able to work to tight deadlines with a flexible approach to work
  • Able to form good working relationships with staff in the Trust and partner organisations
  • Ability to work independently and to take responsibility
  • Can use own initiative
  • A thorough and organised approach 

Qualifications Required

  • 5 GCSE’s including A*-C / 9-4 in maths, English and a technology subject
  • A relevant Level 2 Apprenticeship or other relevant qualifications and experience


  • Evidence of continual personal development and specialist knowledge

  • Ongoing training, support and development with the employer
