Job Description

IMI Truflo Marine are seeking to employ and train a Maintenance Apprentice to be part of their exciting future development and growth plan. You will be highly trained to work in the world of manufacturing within a lean production environment; the initial training will be broad based leading to a first appointment within our Maintenance teams.


IMI Truflo Marine, part of the IMI Critical Engineering Division within IMI Plc, has been a specialist in the design and manufacture of high integrity valves, actuators and pressure reducing stations for critical nuclear and naval marine applications for over 50 years.

IMI Truflo Marine are seeking to employ and train 1 Maintenance Apprentice to be part of the Company’s exciting future development and growth plan. You will be highly trained to work in the world of manufacturing/engineering within a lean production environment; the initial training will be broad based leading to a first appointment within our maintenance team.

Duties will include but no be limited to:

  • Participating in cross functional teams
  • Ensuring all machines and machine tools are effectively operated to an acceptable level of performance
  • Using Lean methodologies within the working area and ensuring machinery and work areas are cleaned and maintained
  • Assisting with routine tasks connected to the upkeep and maintenance of IMI Truflo Marine and the machinery
  • Assisting and performing perform general housekeeping duties to keep tools tidy and safe
  • Ensuring continued communication and good relationships with external and internal customers
  • Supporting the implementation of KPI’s to monitor performance internally, and externally
  • To comply with all Health and Safety policies across IMI Truflo Marine and IMI Plc
  • Carrying out any other duties appropriate to this post, as necessary or as requested

Reality Check

Successful apprentices would receive an apprenticeship agreement which details all the terms and conditions of the apprenticeship. This would also include the details regarding working hours within the business as a core but also what the apprentice would be required to work and whether this included working a rotating shift pattern which involves early starts and late evenings.
Successful apprentices would be provided with training and development opportunities and would also be required to ensure that they are abide by the Company and EEF’s Health and Safety policies and procedures including the use of PPE.

Our Company site is located within an industrial estate near M6 J6 and other local transport links and there is a Company car park situated a short walk to the office with a security guard.

Skills Required

  • Problem solving skills and taking the accountability for implementing and delivering results
  • Good understanding of Engineering and Manufacturing is desirable but not essential
  • Able to produce timely work where required
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to build good relationships within the Company and externally
  • Practical knowledge of machining, assembly, engineering and quality is desirable but not essential
  • Understanding of lean principles is desired but not essential

  • Able to demonstrate a clear interest to work in the manufacturing/engineering sector

Qualifications Required

  • 3 GCSE’s A*-C (9-4) grade (including mathematics and English Language)

Training Provided

Together with invaluable commercial and practical experience, you’ll gain several academic and vocational qualifications throughout your time with us, which are fully paid for, including:  

  •  Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)  
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)  
  • Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
