Job Description

Ever since we started the Warwickshire County Council apprenticeship scheme in 2012, we have offered a fantastic entry to the digital world via opportunities in our brilliantly supportive IT support service. If you would you like to be the latest to realise your potential in an IT career with us, then apply today!

What will the apprentice be doing?

In this role you will work as part of a small Service Desk Team providing a range and variety of ICT Support services to Warwickshire schools.

General role responsibilities will include:

  • Receiving, logging and handling requests for support and providing information to enable problem resolution and promptly allocating unresolved calls as appropriate
  • Carrying out routine monitoring, logging and reporting tasks, taking defined action on simple problems
  • Following agreed procedures and under supervision, receiving and handling requests for information, and providing routine advice to users on systems, products and services which are available to them
  • Assisting service users and customers to make more effective use of desktop systems, products and services, making initial diagnosis of problems and advising solutions
  • Assisting in investigating and overcoming simple problems

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You'll be joining a successful scheme, where over the last ten years we have supported several apprentices who are valued members of the team and have grown into confident IT technicians, encouraging them to gain professional qualifications, whilst always providing them with full support. We'll ensure you receive on the job training and you'll attend Warwickshire College for regular day release tuition to gain the understanding and knowledge required for this Information Communication Technician (Level 3) apprenticeship.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Completion of this apprenticeship will enable you to apply for a further IT position within the Council, and potentially proceed to further qualifications too, subject to performance and the availability of a further role. We provide substantial support to all our apprentices to ensure those who complete also stay with the Council after their apprenticeship, or if necessary, are helped to find employment elsewhere. We have retained several apprentices in further roles within the WCC ICT Service over the years, and we want to make you our next successful retention.
