What will the apprentice be doing?
You will work alongside our knowledgeable, skilled and experienced staff in an RHS Garden, alongside studying at college to develop, enhance and deepen your understanding of horticulture. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will establish, cultivate and maintain formal and informal garden areas, and learn how to be environmentally aware, and use tools, techniques and machinery that will equip you for life in the horticultural industry.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
This role provides the work based training in an RHS garden for the L2 Horticultural Operative standard, apprentices move around the garden teams to experience different plants and aspects of horticulture. College training will take place in a week long residential block at a land based college (appreoximately 5 x per year).
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
This is a fixed two year contract. Some previous apprentices have gone on to full time gardener roles at large public and private gardens. Whilst others have continued their horticultural education or decided to specialise in a specific area of horticulture or work with a group of plants they have become really interested in.
Reality CheckApplicants must be willing to work outdoors in all weathers. College is delivered in residential blocks, so apprentices must be able to live away from home for one week at a time.
