What will the apprentice be doing?
As a Highway Inspector Apprentice, you will gain first-rate training and mentoring through our very own ‘Via Training Centre’ along with hands on experience and the practical qualifications to prove it! Throughout the training period you will work toward and achieve the Highways Maintenance Apprenticeship Standard, level 2 as well as gaining additional nationally recognised industry qualifications eg: NRSWA
About the role:
Within your role you will work under the support and direction of experienced Highway Inspectors delivering highway maintenance, inspection and construction works.
You will also assist with highway planned inspections and enquiries that have been logged by other departments, stakeholders, clients and customers. You’ll also undertake construction projects and support the team on site. You’ll carry out general labouring and driving duties and assist the Highways Maintenance Operatives and Inspectors in their daily duties, including, inspections, customer enquiries, tarmacking, concreting, and various other groundworks duties. You’ll help to ensure that works are completed on time, to budget and in compliance with all health and safety and relevant legislation.
As part of your role you will gain an understanding of the documentation and specifications associated with highway inspections, maintenance and construction works. You’ll undertake routine daily checks of vehicles and plant in accordance with legal requirements and report any damages or defects found.
As part of your training you will also learn how to use, and become competent in operating light plant and other construction equipment, such as Road Rollers, Breakers and Stihl Saws!
