Job Description

This apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to join our Network team who are responsible for the operation and overall availability of our network technology which is used to manage and control gas and electricity flows across England and Wales.

Responsibilities

This apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to join our Network team who are responsible for the operation and overall availability of our network technology which is used to manage and control gas and electricity flows across England and Wales. This infrastructure includes the Operational Telecommunications (Optel) Network/satellite telemetry services which underpin the operation of our electricity substations, gas sites and control centres.

You’ll get real experience including:

Dealing with incidents, liaising with stakeholders, carrying out investigations and implementing corrective actions.
Managing the performance of our suppliers to make sure that they deliver value for money and keep to the high safety and security standards that we need.
Providing advice on optel requirements to the teams who manage our construction projects
Reviewing the health of the assets used in our network and making sure that we have plans and funds in place to refresh the equipment.
Meanwhile, we will provide you with the training you need to achieve a Level 4 Qualification in Network Engineering.

Qualifications Required

As a Higher Apprentice, we'll help you develop your skills through a combination of practical work and academic study, all the while providing you with the passion, skills and knowledge you need to power all our futures.

You will need to have a GCSE in English Language AND in maths at Grade C or above (or equivalent) along with one of the following:

2 A levels / A2: Grades A* - C (1 must be in either maths, Physics, Chemistry or Computing); or BTEC National Certificate OR Diploma Level 3 in IT, Computing, IT Systems and Development, IT (Software Development), IT (Business), ICT Systems and Principles, Computing (Software Engineering Stream) at Grade Merit or Distinction; or
HNC/HND in IT, Computing, IT Systems and Development, IT (Software Development), IT (Business), ICT Systems and Principles, Computing (Software Engineering Stream) at Grade Merit or Distinction; or Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Computing.
