Job Description

The Pembleton Motor Company is recruiting for a Coachbuilding Apprentice to work alongside a team of highly skilled craftsman, using techniques that are slowly being lost in our mass-produced world, hand-constructing bespoke vehicles that are cheap to run and outrageously good fun to drive, with a bhp per kg that beats many mainstream sports cars.

What will the apprentice be doing?

This apprenticeship combines old-school coachbuilding with the use of cutting-edge technology. Apprentices will be taught about the history and development of materials and vehicle construction, hand skills, technical drawing and pattern development, welding, fabrication including bending, folding, shrinking, and stretching, wheeling, making bucks, removal and replacement of components. The successful applicant will work with Master Coachbuilders building unique iconic vehicles.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The ‘Heritage Engineering Level 3 Apprenticeship’ is a nationally recognised qualification delivered by ‘HSA’ from its Coachbuilding Academy based at ‘Brooklands Museum’ in Surrey. Delivered over 42 months on a block release basis, you will attend your academy on average every 5 weeks for a 5-day block of training running from Monday to Friday, the remaining 80% of the time you will be working with your employer. If required, your employer will cover the Accommodation and travel costs.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

On completion of the Programme, you will be qualified as a Heritage Engineering Technician. Employment with Pembleton Motor Company after completion of the apprenticeship is not guaranteed but highly likely, subject to performance and a position being available.

The classic vehicle industry is thriving and the companies that HSA work with are world-class.  Prospects for progression range from specialist technical roles to management positions and international work opportunities.

There is a high expectation that successful candidates will work hard, be conscientious and represent the company well on all occasions. Appearance, attitude, timekeeping, and personal presentation will all be considered throughout the interview process.
