Job Description

Day-to-day work experience will take place within the workshop and you'll attend Preston College where you'll be working towards achieving an IMI Apprenticeship qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair - Heavy Vehicle. You will be learning how to use the latest equipment in truck and bus/coach technology at work and at the college.

Responsibilities

Duties will include:

  • To work with qualified and experienced Technicians learning how to repair and maintain modern buses and coaches to the highest standards
  • You will be trained how to repair, service and MOT cutting edge technology buses and luxury coaches
  • Working alongside a qualified Technician learning how to carry out repairs according to company procedures in a safe and responsible manner
  • Accompany Technicians on road tests
  • Learn how to use computer aided diagnostic equipment and manufacturer special tools, safely and efficiently
  • Comply with warranty procedures during repairs and with warranty material on completion of repair
  • Ensure that the company's time recording procedures are complied with
  • Ensure job cards are completed accurately
  • Ensure all vehicle defects are reported to workshop supervisor
  • Attend college courses regularly and achieve the standards required by the course
  • Ensure your college portfolio and modules are completed within the required timescales
  • Attend any technical or development training that is made available
  • Ensure you adhere to the Company Health and Safety policy and rules
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when required
  • To attain high levels of morale and focus to ensure the highest possible levels of productive efficiency, quality of workmanship and production finish in order to sustain growth in customer confidence in the service provide
  • Assist with cleaning the workshop

  • Achieved grade 4/C in maths and English at GCSE (or equivalent)

Training Provided

Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • The dedicated 3 year Advanced Heavy Vehicle programme gives emphasis to electronics, diagnosis and computer management systems. All aspects of heavy vehicle technology are embedded throughout the programme. The majority of your time will be spent in the depot gaining hands-on experience and on the job training, under the guidance of a trained mentor
  • Day-to-day work experience will take place within the workshop. You will attend Preston College where you will be working towards achieving an IMI Apprenticeship qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair - Heavy Vehicle. Whilst at College and within the workplace you will be learning how to use the latest equipment in truck and bus/coach technology
